Should I repair my car or replace it?

Whether you will repair your vehicle or replace it after an accident is something that depends on your insurance company’s assessment of the damage and your personal preference.

If your car only has minor damage or cosmetic damage, your insurance company will usually offer to repair the car, and not to replace it.

However, when you have a more serious crash, your car could be totaled, which means that it is a total loss and is either unable to be repaired or the cost to repair it would exceed its value.  In this case, you will usually be given the value of your car (before the accident) and will be able to replace your vehicle.

If your insurance company is undervaluing your car or if you believe the car should be totaled, speak to an attorney about how they can work with the insurance company to make sure you will be driving a safe vehicle in the future.
